Modernization
Software Modernization
Legacy application modernization, API upgrades, performance and security improvements, and gradual migration — without betting the business on a big-bang rewrite.
Can you modernize an existing application?
Yes. We take over existing web, mobile, TV and backend applications, stabilise them, and modernize them incrementally: upgrading frameworks and dependencies, introducing APIs around legacy systems, improving performance and security, and migrating functionality piece by piece while the system stays in use.
Full rewrites are tempting and frequently fail: they take longer than planned, the old system keeps changing underneath, and value arrives only at the end. We prefer the "strangler" approach — wrap the old system, replace one capability at a time, and deliver improvements continuously.
A modernization POC proves the approach on one real slice of the system before the wider migration is planned.
When modernization makes sense
- Every change takes longer and breaks something else
- Frameworks, OS targets or dependencies are out of support
- You need mobile or TV apps but the system has no usable API
- Performance or hosting costs are getting worse with growth
- Security reviews keep flagging the same issues
- The original team has moved on and knowledge is thin
How we approach it
Assess, stabilise, then modernize
- Step 1
Assess
Code, architecture, infrastructure, dependencies, risks and quick wins.
- Step 2
Stabilise
Monitoring, backups, critical fixes and a reliable build and deploy process.
- Step 3
Wrap
Introduce an API layer so new features stop depending on legacy internals.
- Step 4
Replace
Migrate capabilities one at a time, validating each in production.
- Step 5
Extend
Add new platforms and features on the modern foundation.
Modernization FAQ
Can you take over an application built by another team?
Yes. We start with a structured handover and technical assessment, document what we find, and agree priorities before making significant changes.
Will the system be offline during modernization?
The aim of incremental modernization is to avoid that. Changes are released in small steps, with rollback plans, while the system stays in use.
Can you work alongside our existing developers?
Yes. We can work as an extension of your team, pair on critical areas, and leave documentation and tests that make the system easier for everyone to change.

Stuck with an application that's hard to change?
Tell us what the system does, what's painful and what can't break. We'll suggest a low-risk first step — often a short technical assessment or a modernization POC.
- Talk directly with an engineer
- NDA available before you share details
- Clear POC scope agreed before development
- Continue into full development — or not
